Description
With the purchase of the Ansonia Clock Factory and Dueber Hampden Watch & Co., along with 21 former employees, the First State Watch Factory was founded in Moscow in 1930. After initial preparations and assembly work, the first 50 Soviet pocket watches were produced, with all individual parts being manufactured directly in the factory. Initial difficulties were overcome in 1932, when production took on a systematic character. This success was largely due to party member and Lenin's comrade-in-arms Sergei Kirov, in whose honor the factory was renamed the First State Watch Factory Kirov ("1 G.CH.Z Kirov"). The watches manufactured at this factory also bore the name Kirov.
Designers and technicians worked on the new model for almost a year. Its design was carefully adapted to the original model, but the watch was now made in a smaller 40 mm case. The internal mechanisms were also modernized - the Vostok 2415 automatic movement was used with a decentralized second hand at 10 o'clock. In order to preserve the original position of the second hand at 9 o'clock, the crown was moved to 2 o'clock and the entire movement was rotated counterclockwise. The rotor of the mechanism is decorated with Geneva stripes, and the screws are blued.
